Summary

We expanded this museum, building a new addition to connect the House with an adjacent building and grow the facility’s capacity.

The Campbell House is the oldest freestanding residence in St. Louis. Built in the 1840s, it has deep historical and architectural significance. The structure was converted to a museum in the 1980s. We were brought on as a design build contractor to build a walkway connecting the Campbell House museum with an adjacent brick building called the Carriage House.

We built a covered walkway adjoining the two structures, overcoming compliance issues regarding elevator placement along the way. The new addition also contained a larger gift shop and a room with period furniture, which was used for tours and board meetings. Our expansion substantially increased the Campbell House’s capacity, while respecting the architectural significance of the building.
